The Wood Estate in Devon, is a Grade 1 registered Arts & Crafts garden designed by Thomas Mawson. The original “as-built” drawings and photographs of the gardens are included, together with extensive written descriptions within the 5th Edition of Mawson’s seminal work “The Art and Craft of Garden Making” published in 1926.
We were commissioned to prepare an Historic Landscape Survey and Restoration Management Plan for the site. Our work included the research of archives and a detailed survey of the condition of surviving historic structures and garden features. This led on to a fully scheduled and costed restoration scheme which formed the basis for discussion with English Heritage in relation to a potential scheme for enabling development within the grounds.
